Burano, Italy
Bringing the summer to a close in Burano!
This is our third and final stop in Burano, the colorful island off the coast of Italy. This series of homes is what inspired me to paint architecture around the world for fun . It birthed the idea that maybe I could paint full time! The bolder, dark colors of this home and the clothes lines and flower boxes made me eager to put paint brush to paper.
Read the first two posts to learn more about Burano’s history and why and how I painted each home:
A little History
Laundry Lines that Caused Drama
The laundry lines strung between these houses, because I think they're just as much a part of Burano's personality as the paint itself. Fishermen's wives used to hang wash between buildings, and locals say the laundry can't be hung in a way that blocks the view of the church bell tower… so the lines zigzag every which way, practical and a little chaotic. I loved painting that texture — the fabric breaking up all that saturated color, soft where the houses are hard-edged.
